Berwang (1336m)

Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena | Tirol | Austria

Berwang is a small but fine ski and holiday resort in the middle of the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. The traditional mountain farming village lies at 1,336 m above sea level, hidden in a side valley between the Fernpass and the Lechtal, approx. 30 km south of Füssen/Bavaria and the German frontier. It is the highest village of the Zugspitz Arena and is regarded as a true "snow hole". In winter, the Berwang valley is calmer than other valleys, as it lies in a preferred dead end area without through traffic. The continuing Namlospass is only open in the summer half-year.

Berwang is as a climatic health resort with particularly good air a very pleasant holiday resort at any time of year: nature lovers, families with children and guests who value a traditionally grown village and relaxed holiday atmosphere can look forward to a beautiful alpine mountain landscape and varied leisure offers. Even if the location is relatively isolated, there is always something going on in Berwang and the surrounding villages. The local gastronomy attracts with Tyrolean delicacies from regional production - from the rustic alpine hut to the traditional speciality restaurant, here nobody has to go hungry. Also the Après-Ski-Fun is not missed out in the evening when there is still enough energy left to celebrate. The interesting guild, crib and local history museums, the creative workshop "Tirol Art" with great unique specimens from its own production (mid-June to mid-September), the highest house brewery and distillery in Austria as well as various sports offers also provide variety. A bank, a few small cafés, shops and basic shopping facilities round off Berwang's range. Don´t miss a trip to the world-famous fairytale Neuschwanstein castle of the king Ludwig of Bavaria (approx. 35 car min.).

Winter info:
Together with the district Rinnen and the neighbouring village Bichlbach, Berwang has a versatile contiguous Skiarena at an altitude of 1,067 to 1,743 m with the ski mountains Alpkopf and Rastkopf as well as the Thanellerkar. The individual ski areas are very well connected via a ski swing and a free ski bus (with guest card or ski pass Tiroler Zugspitz Arena) and therefore offer a varied range of slopes for all demands. The well-known ski resorts of Lermoos and Ehrwald can be reached in about 12 to 20 minutes by car with access to the Tyrolean Zugspitz cable car. In the Berwang-Bichlbach-Rinnen ski area there are 36 km of pistes and 12 lifts (a 10-seater gondola lift, a 6-seater/8-seater combined lift, 3 chair lifts and 7 drag lifts). Another great advantage for skiers and snowboarders is that the pistes lead directly to the village of Berwang and the distances from our chalets to the next piste are therefore pleasantly short.

The Skiarena Berwang-Rinnen-Bichlbach is particularly popular with families and skiers who are less looking for the thrill of sport than the pleasure of downhill skiing in a wonderfully snow-covered natural landscape away from the hustle and bustle. 24 kilometres of blue pistes offer plenty of variety for families with children, beginners and connoisseurs. There are also 10 km of red pistes and 1.5 km of black pistes for more experienced skiers.
With a night ski run (usually Thursdays from the end of December to mid-March) and the night toboggan run (usually Thursdays) Berwang has a real highlight to offer in the region. Snowboarders and freestylers enjoy the Obstaclepark at the Thanellerkar lift, where they can try out new tricks.
For cross-country skiers the entire winter sports region offers 110 tracked cross-country trail kilometres - classic and for skating - which can be used free of charge. Since many cross-country ski runs are networked, a varied offer opens up, every day you can discover new cross-country ski runs. If you run out of breath on the way, you can use the ski bus for free with your guest card.
Further winter pleasures are the natural ice skating rink in Bichlbach, where you can also have fun curling and family-friendly, cleared winter hiking trails.

In Berwang, the local ski school offers ski and snowboard courses for the different learning and age groups:
