Karersee - Carezza (1600m)
Alto Adige | Trentino | Belluno | Italy
Karersee - Carezza is a popular mountain and ski resort in the heart of the much-loved Dolomites holiday region. The spectacular Rosengarten massif (Catinaccio) and the legendary Latemar form one of South Tyrol’s most impressive natural landscapes around Lake Carezza. Karersee - Carezza belongs to the municipality of Welschnofen (Nova Levante) and lies at the foot of the Karer Pass (Passo Costalunga), which connects the Eggental valley with the Fassa Valley.
In winter, the Carezza Dolomites ski area attracts visitors with perfectly groomed slopes set against a breathtaking mountain backdrop. The ski areas around the Karer Pass offer sunny pistes, modern lift facilities and magnificent panoramic views of peaks such as the Rotwand and the Vajolet Towers. The famous Sella Ronda, also part of Dolomiti Superski, can be reached by car or ski bus.
In summer, the region becomes a true paradise for hikers, mountaineers and mountain bikers. Popular excursion destinations include the Kölner Hütte (Rifugio Fronza alle Coronelle), the Paolina Hut, the Rotwand Hut and the alpine pastures around the Karer Pass. Hiking trails lead through fragrant larch forests, across flowering alpine meadows and to crystal-clear mountain lakes.
The region is also known for its culinary specialities, ranging from South Tyrolean dumplings and Schlutzkrapfen to Ladin delicacies and Italian classics.
An unforgettable, almost magical experience is the Alpenglow, known locally as Enrosadira: in the evening, the rock faces of the Rosengarten, Rotwand and Vajolet Towers glow in unique, intense shades of red as they are illuminated by the setting sun.
